21st Century Families is a registered charity in East Kilbride working with schools to promote happy, healthy children. Our key messages are ‘Giving Childhood back to Children and Giving Parenthood back to Parents’.

Our idea is based on the work of Sue Palmer, author of 'Toxic Childhood' who describes the effects of 21st Century life on our children and families.

In a media rich age, children are spending an increasing amount of time on screens playing virtual games, with virtual friends, in a virtual world. We believe real play, with real friends in the real world is essential to developing happy, healthy and well- behaved children with strong and loving friendship and family bonds.  Switch off the screen and do something fun and creative with your child instead! What we do as parents are the memories our children take into adulthood.

We are hoping to rekindle a love of real play by supporting schools to organise Retro Playdays for children and their families to take part in activities like skipping, ball games, den building, arts and crafts, junk modelling, puppet making, storytelling, dressing up etc.
